Title

Dawn Strikes the Capitol Dome

Description

This excerpt from a video about daily life in Washington, DC, shows people engaged in sports activities on and around the Mall. A section of West Potomac Park, near the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, has been used as a polo ground since the early 1900s. In addition to the golf course which is still open today in East Potomac Park, in the 1930s there was a golf course just south of the present site of the Korean War Memorial. There was a whites-only swimming pool near the Washington Monument during the 1930s and 40s.
